Robertson no match for outback muscle
Queensland Health Minister, Stephen Robertson, has this afternoon announced existing services at the Aramac Hospital in the state's west will continue; for the next twelve months anyway.
In a statement issued late this afternoon, Robertson announced that his Deputy Director-General, Andrew Wilson, will head a "consultation process" regarding future health services for the rural Queensland community.
"Over the next 12 months we will continue to consult with the hospital staff and the Aramac community about the most appropriate mix of services to meet their needs" Robertson said.
"All options remain on the table and I appreciate the Aramac community's willingness to work with the Government to achieve the best outcome."
The threat of a hospital closure came as a complete shock to Aramac residents a few weeks ago and since then the entire community has muscled up to George Street and the Bligh Government.
The Save Aramac Hospital Committee was subsequently established and the community has been in campaign mode ever since.
Vaughan Johnson, the LNP's local state member, was pleased to here of the decision this afternoon.
"People power has brought the Bligh Labor Government to there senses in Aramac with Stephen Robertson announcing the hospital will remain open for another 12 months; this is a classic example of non-committment by this government for an indefinate period on this important facility for Aramac" he said.
Hobbsy will continue to monitor the situation in Aramac and keep you abreast of future developments.
